It is important to understand all of the consequences that can accompany sentencing in an assault case. Not only can lengthy jail time be imposed, enhancements and additional restrictions can come into play. For example, a person convicted of a family violence assault is prohibited from possessing a firearm for five years following the date of the person’s release from confinement, or the date of the person’s release from community supervision. Also, if a person charged with an assault of any type is found to have been previously convicted of a family violence assault, the charge can be enhanced to a felony of the third degree. And the list goes on. At Sumpter & Gonzalez LLP we understand all the potential consequences facing the accused. |
