"I need to File an Appeal..."

What Should you Do Now?

1) Gather all the documents you received from the trial lawyer regarding the case.
2) Were there witnesses that were not called at trial that would have made a difference in the determination of guilt or innocence? If so, gather their names, addresses and telephone numbers.
3) Act immediately. There is a thirty (30) day deadline to file a Motion for New Trial. The Motion must include sworn affidavits to allow for the possibility of introducing evidence that was not brought out at trial.

Set-Up an Appointment

Please have the following information available so we can be of better help to you during our telephone conversation:

1) The date of sentencing;
2) Whether the trial was by a judge or a jury;
3) the type of offense
4) The amount and time of punishment imposed;
5) How many days the trial lasted; and
6) The name and telephone number of the trial lawyer. We will also ask if you have ever hired or consulted with lawyers before so that we may tailor the answers to your questions accordingly. We will then schedule an appointment for our first meeting. After our conversation, we will e-mail you a .pdf file with additional questions and materials to bring to our first meeting. We ask that you respond to these questions prior to our meeting.

Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and we can be reached during these hours at (512) 381-9955. For after-hour emergencies (e.g., getting someone out of jail) please call (512) 536-1374.
