Many of our clients who have pending drug charges have had the door to their house kicked open in the middle of the night, a gun pointed in their face, and their property torn apart in search of drugs. The war on drugs has become a war on the liberties of all Americans and we are on the frontlines of that war, trying to protect our clients’ most fundamental rights.
And we are waging our own war on drugs. Some of our clients are struggling with serious drug or alcohol addiction. We have a social work team, led by a Masters-level social worker, who works hard to find these clients the help they need. In such situations, we strive to resolve drug charges through intervention and treatment, often before a client ever sees a judge, and well before a probation department might get involved.
And we find that many times, getting clean can make all the difference in keeping a client’s record clean: By showing our clients’ commitment to address their drug issues, we have been able to get dismissals of criminal cases. |
